AMAZING BRAINZ IN MCGREGOR
On April 23rd club members visited Byekorf crèche in Mcgregor. With the generous support of the Claremont outreach fund BRWC had undertaken a project there in collaboration with the organisation Amazing Brainz and local teacher Mary Luhdo. Members met with Susara Nortje and Carla van der Merwe representing Amazing Brainz to witness handover of the educational toys which are a feature of their programme, which also involves training preschool teachers in their use to optimise brain development in the children they care for. Handover was accompanied by many oohs and aahs from both the children and staff.
Club members then visited the Breede Centre nearby, to hand over the toys there. Their grateful thanks was accompanied by coffee and cookies prepared in the Centre’s kitchen.
Later that day the members visited another local project, a farm school at Exelsior Wine Estate to hand over more educational toys. The school is run by Amanda de Wet, wife of the owner of the winery. Once again the visit clearly brought much pleasure to staff and children.
